Work packages and Activities
PLURALAKES is structured around five interconnected Work Packages (WPs), each contributing to a shared goal: integrating diverse values of lakes into governance to secure ecosystem services and community well-being.
WP1: Case Coordination & Knowledge Weaving
We coordinate participatory processes and synthesize outputs across the project, ensuring that diverse perspectives—from science to local knowledge—are integrated meaningfully.
WP2: Systems Knowledge – “What is?”
We assess current lake conditions, ecosystem services, and management options. Using tools like PCLake and VEMALA, we model how lakes respond to pressures such as climate change and pollution.
WP3: Target Knowledge – “What ought to be?”
We work with local communities to co-create visions of desirable lake futures. Through workshops and surveys, we identify stakeholders’ values and preferences, and analyze their support for different interventions.
WP4: Transformative Knowledge – “How to get there?”
We develop semi-quantitative pathways that bridge today’s realities with shared visions for the future. These include both stakeholder-designed interventions and model-based optimization.
WP5: Project Management & Communication
We manage operations, support internal and external communication, and ensure that our results contribute to broader policy dialogues—especially with Water4All and IPBES communities.
Across these WPs, we apply the ‘three types of knowledge’ framework - system, target, and transformation - to develop actionable strategies that are realistic, locally grounded, and broadly supported.
